Fay Godwin: Photograph Analysis #2

In this photograph “Canal in Bradford” by Fay Godwin it shows a pathway beside a canal river with a row/line of thin tall trees surrounding it, with visible vehicles and land behind the trees. The curve of the pathway and row of trees give a nice composition for the eye to ‘follow’, the foreground of the path and background of the trees work well together. The reflection of the trees and sky in the river almost give a mirror-like feeling, as if everything has been mirrored below the water’s surface, this is an interesting effect. The lighting looks like this photograph was taking during sunrise, this is seen by the darkened pathway and lower areas of the trees which may suggest that the sun is just rising as the upper areas are brightened and there are clear silhouettes with the more foreground trees. Its golden colour brings a mood of enlightenment and ‘uprising’.
